Championing Accessibility: Making Purchasing Possible
Objective: Highlight the need for user testing with customers who use assistive technologies. Beyond WCAG 2.0 compliance, user research is vital to understanding needs and creating equally good user experiences for everybody.
Role: I discovered and established a relationship with the vendor Fable, who provides experts (users) of assistive technology to support inclusive design. I advocate for accessibility in weekly team stand-ups while partnering with the compliance team to understand the internal conversations around accessibility.
Outcome: Identified and corrected a critical blocker in the purchase journey when the participant using screen-reader technology could not enter his email and proceed to checkout. More importantly, it has elevated the conversation around accessibility to the executive leadership team, with plans for an ongoing partnership.
